Dr. Whitaker brings decades long experience in the care of people with developmental disabilities

The Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center is delighted to welcome Psychiatrist Dr. Agnes Whitaker to our mental health team. Dr. Whitaker joins our multidisciplinary team of providers in September 2024. 

A pioneering clinician leader in the field of developmental disorders, Dr. Whitaker brings over 20 years of clinical expertise in the mental health care of children, adolescents and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, including treatment of co-occurring mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders. Her appointment underscores the WFCPC's commitment in supporting the holistic needs of families living with cerebral palsy. 

Dr. Whitaker has dedicated her life to providing care and research to improve outcomes for those with developmental disorders. She has led research to understand the long-term effects of premature birth, including the risk factors in cerebral palsy. As Co-Director of the Whitaker Scholar Program in Developmental Neuropsychiatry, at the Columbia University Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, she continues to train and inspire other clinician leaders in the field. Dr. Whitaker was the 2018 recipient of the prestigious Frank J. Menolascino Award for Psychiatric Services for Persons with Intellectual Development Disorders/Developmental Disabilities from the American Psychiatric Association Foundation.

At the WFCPC, Dr. Whitaker will provide psychiatry evaluations, consultations and interventions to complement the therapy and support group offerings from our Clinical Social Worker Minnelly Vasquez, LCSW.
