A New Gift Supports Enhanced Multidisciplinary Care at the WFCPC

January 30, 2025

A new gift from Sue and David Viniar will improve coordination of multidisciplinary care for people with cerebral palsy (CP) at the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center (the Center).

Over the past year, the Center has expanded its multidisciplinary team of clinicians and re-envisioned how and where providers in various disciplines at the Center see patients. The Center’s aim has been to co-locate multiple specialties to ensure that patients have a seamless visit, limiting the need to travel to and from various locations for appointments, and so that the dialogue amongst providers is enhanced, leading to improved clinical decision-making. To bolster this effort, and with the support of the Viniar gift, the Center will build out this multidisciplinary model and manage the complexities of clinical operations.

The Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center was established in 2013 and is dedicated to lifetime, multidisciplinary care for families living with CP. The Center coordinates care with specialists at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons for patients of all ages, easing the transition from pediatric to adult care. The Center also creates educational programs for medical professionals and the CP community and houses the only basic science program within a CP center in the country.

Sue and David Viniar also made a gift to the Center in 2022 to provide support for a part-time psychiatrist to prescribe and treat patients at the Center with mental health needs.

The Weinberg Family CP Center provides the multidisciplinary care that our patients need to live their lives fully, and it strives to put patients at the heart of all it does” says Jason Carmel, MD, PhD, Executive Director of the Center.

This gift will enable the Center to prioritize the patient’s care environment, operating from a place of understanding and time management for both patients and providers, thereby strengthening the patient’s clinical experience and outcomes.
