Fifth Annual Adaptive Ski Trip
On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center hosted our Fifth Annual Adaptive Ski Trip. Five patients and their family members joined us at Windham Mountain for a beautiful day of skiing and fun!
The patients participated in ski lessons, led by certified instructors from the Adaptive Sports Foundation, which provides sports and recreation opportunities to people with both cognitive and physical disabilities. At Windham, they are equipped with stand skis, mono sit skis, and the sledge to cater for different abillities.
It was the first time on the mountain for many of our patients, and the new experience brought much emotions. New skiier Bonnie Eng described that experience beautifully:
"I’ve always loved a good challenge. So when I was asked if I’d be interested in adaptive skiing, I didn’t hesitate. I was eager to pushing my limits.
But when I touched the snow, fear and anxiety took over. This was out of my comfort zone, I struggle on solid ground. Everything was telling me no. My instructors were extremely patient, encouraging and had unwavering belief in me. They didn’t just teach me how to ski; they showed me that I was capable just like everyone else. I didn’t need to change- I just needed to adapt.
When everything clicked, I was moving faster than I ever have on my own two feet, it felt truly freeing. All that fear and doubt I had earlier disappeared. It was just skiing - I was embracing the thrill, the joy and power of pushing beyond what I thought was possible."
We want to thank the volunteers at the Adaptive Sports Foundation, our patient families and our team for an unforgettable experience on the slopes!
